Early Christmas Present

rudolph-25Merry Christmas Eve, everybody!

I was trying to decide what to get all of you for Christmas, but it turns out the only thing you have in common is that you like to read a sci-fi book blog written by a grouchy old man.  (My wife informs me that I’m not that old, but they do say that you’re only as old as you feel, in which case I’m approximately one hundred and fifty years old.)

So, here is my present to you:  Bookstooge’s Reviews on the Road.  Bookstooge is very particular about what he likes and doesn’t like, and isn’t afraid to call a lousy book a lousy book.  Hmm, why does that description sound so familiar?

I haven’t updated my list of blog links in a long while, so there were some dead links there, and many of my most-frequent visitors weren’t included.  I never seem to put aside the time to update the list all at once, so I’m going to do it piecemeal, starting with this post.  If you’ve been visiting for a while, but aren’t on the list, I plan to get to you in the coming year, but don’t be shy about dropping me a reminder in the comments below.

  1. Thanks for the shoutout PDC! Maybe we should start a grumpy old/notold men’s club?

And good job on the upcoming project. Nothing like a nice website cleanup to keep you busy and out of trouble 🙂

    1. I think I’ll have to read the Grumpy Cat book before I can consider joining the club.

Oh, I’ll have plenty to keep me busy. The end of December / start of January is the busiest time for me at work, plus the Planetary Awards start again in January, plus I’ve got to post the results of my magazine quest, plus another blogger has declared January to be Classic Science Fiction month, so I’d like to put out at least one review of a classic work. I have an Arthur C Clarke I’ve been meaning to write a review of for more than a year.

      1. Oh, which Clarke?

          1. Huh, I don’t think I’ve even heard of that. Excellent, I shall be looking forward to your review then!

            1. It’s underwater sci-fi, so I had to check it out. Clarke really nailed several things, but to me, got one thing really screwy. It’s a human behavior thing, so maybe I’m the one who has it wrong.

  2. Merry Christmas to you too, Defender! And what a happy doggie with that Rudolph toy 😉

If it’s any compliment, I could not tell you were a “grouchy old man” from your writing, and in fact you seem quite youthful! 🙂

    1. Yes, she’s a happy little girl when her family is around.

Thanks for the compliment, but I may have some more grouchy reviews in the new year!

  3. And a happy Christmas to you and the dog and the stuffed toy!

There’s different kinds of grouchiness. Some kinds are constructive.

    1. Thanks! I hope mine is the constructive kind.
